Help! Net shuts off when I leave computer.

I am having problems with my internet. When I shut the lid of my laptop, and come back a few hours later, I need to reset my cable modem. This only happens when I am running Bearshare and Bitcomet. BTW, I'm also running PeerGuardian Lite.

I have set my network card not to shut off during low power in the control panel, and the computer will not go into standby ever. All I set it to do was to go into screenaver after 6 minutes.

So, what's going on? Is it my ISP getting mad at me, or is it my computer? Any help would be appreciated. :evil:
