To enhance the speed of your start menu follow these steps

.**** start
.**** run
.type regedit

registery editor will open up
so next
in the left pan
.expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER
.expand control panel
.expand desktop

in the right pan you will find an entry on
.menushowdelay
.double **** or select it and press enter key

The default value there would be 400
.choose 0 for no delay
.try experiment between 0 and 400 until you find the
speed that is according to your choice.
