USB Devices ****

Hi,

I have just got a new USB hard drive. The drive works great, but it **** with my USB Flash memory stick. I can plug either device in by itself, but if I have them both plugged in together then the one I plug in second doesn't work. Windows says "USB Device Not Recognised" and an "Unknown Device" shows up in device manager.

This occurs regardless of which one was plugged in first, it is always the one that was there first keeps working and the one that was plug in afterwards fails to initialise. I don't know how to fix this and I really would like to be able to use them both at the same time. Any ideas?

Have you tried manually instaling the drivers for each device?

There are no drivers for either device. I know this is not a drivers problem because Linux has the same problem. BIOS, however does not. I know this becuase my BIOS has a special key you can press to bring up a menu that will list all the available boot devices, and both USB devices are correctly named and listed there.

Interesting

I've had this problem before.
What operating system are you using, and the brands of the products?

I'm using Windows XP. I have a Maxtor USB Hard Drive and a Flash Memory stick. I'm not entirely sure exactly who makes it, but its exactly the same as the Standard model on this website

How did you solve the problem?
