No, we cannot allow linking movies and songs off rapidshare (or any other file host) as such files are usually copyrighted and by providing links on your site, you are encouraging in breaking the copyright laws.

You may link files which are owned by you and if ever asked to, you should be able to prove that the files linked on your site are owned by you.

Well, you are breaking the law and that is against smoky's policy.

I would like to revive this issue.

I do make songs, I sing, i compose, i record. Could I not put on rapidshare too? How about IMEEM, audio streaming?

Additionally, how do I, actually prove that this is mine?

I have no idea, but as long as they are yours and not copied (under the copyright laws) you should be able to upload them and link to them.

Yes, you may go ahead and link to files which are truely owned by you. There is no issue on linking to such files as you own the copyrights for your contents.

So basically, SHAdmin, if we want to link to another file made by somebody else; then we should link to their site and say to download from there?

Yes that's right.

You can provide direct links only if the content is your own.

so are you saying that if the members of the forum post rapid share links to copyrighted files then the site owner is to be taken to legal action... even though he posts in the disclaimer that posting links to copyrighted files are not allowed....

Nah, you can do it in 2 ways.

1) The link MUST be loaded inside a frame of your own site
2) The link opens a new window
both 1 & 2 require the user to acknowledge the page link.
