i thought bandwidth is like traffic for the server.
but it seems like i'm wrong
i really need to know it
cos i have a script on my hosting which downloads files from other servers
and i want to know, if this counts for bandwidth
does bandwidth decrease only when users visit my website?

Well bandwidth is interpretted in different maners in different subjects.

For internet :: Bandwidth is the speed of your internet connection. e.g.1mbps or 512kbps etc
For server/pc :: Bandwidth is the total datatransfer taking place between the server/pc and the web
Tele-Communication :: It is the channel of frequecies through which your data can flow

Now it depends on what you need it for.

so does the bandwidth of my hosting decrease when my php script downloads files to it's server (my hosting) from another server?

Yes, it would, since Bandwidth on the server determines how much data can travel between the pc and the web. But depending on the file size the bandwidth usage should be relativly small. The only way to use extreme ammounts of bandwidth is to have a huge file transfer such as a download that 100s of people download a month.


But I have uploaded 50megs to a the server and didn't use much bandwidth at all. So like I said depending on the download size and the intervals between the downloads bandwidth usage should be realtivly small.

i think is both upload and download because you are talking about trafic, the direction doesnt matter.
