that's because .edu and .gov are well ranked in google, and they get loads of spam ever day

Try to target well ranked websites having good position on major search engines, avoid link farm while doing link building...and have patience it will take some time in ranking...

Well, if you can't trust .edu domains, who WOULD you trust? I mean, it's a TLD that's also exclusive in a way (reserved for educational institutions). I'm not sure if domain hosts exist that provide these domains without confirmation of identity, but in any case it should seem more trustworthy that a regular .com that just about anyone could get. I personally have an email address at a .edu site (my college) and haven't received a single spam email for the past 5 months that I've had it.
